- class C: gas fires (propane, butane, methane, etc.). These powder extinguishers can also be used to extinguish electrical fires (electrical installations with a voltage of less than 1000V), as the powder is non-conductive. ABC powder extinguishers work by smothering the flames and isolating the fuel.
